Procedures All Our Mobile Eye Doctors perform in office:
- Epilation – removal with forceps of lashes for patients suffering from trichiasis, misdirected lashes that scratch the cornea, causing discomfort and infection.
- Meibomian Gland Expression – A standard of care procedure that not many physicians offer, which treats the most common cause of dry eyes, clogged tear-producing glands.
- Punctal Dilation and Irrigation – this opens the drainage system for tears. When a drainage duct becomes blocked, one eye will tear chronically. In most cases Our Mobile Eye Doctors can restore the duct in a few minutes with this procedure.
- Punctal Occlusion – For patients who suffer from chronic dry eyes, Our Mobile Eye Doctors can implant silicone or collagen plugs into the tear drainage duct, which helps keep your natural tears on your eyes longer.
- Foreign Body Removal – Our Mobile Eye Doctors has experience removing metal, glass, plastic, contact lenses, lashes and hairs from the eye and from under the eyelids.
- Epithelial Debridement – to assist healing of abrasions or remove rust deposits from metallic foreign bodies.
- Placement of Amniotic Membrane Contact Lens – for dangerous or chronic corneal abrasions and ulcers, this state-of-the-art technique speeds healing and minimizes scarring and vision loss.
- Placement of Silicone Bandage Contact Lens – for comfort and protection of the cornea while healing from abrasions or inflammation.
- Keratoconjunctival Iodine Flush – When you have “pink eye,” usually it is an adenovirus infection, which is highly contagious for 10 days. This treatment immediately kills the virus and makes you not contagious, allowing you to return to school or work immediately.
- Suture Removal – after major eye surgery, often sutures are left in the eye for days, weeks, or even years. When the suture gets loose and begins to irritate the eye, Our Mobile Eye Doctors has micro suture removal tools designed specifically to remove sutures from the eye.
Drugs Our Mobile Eye Doctors can Prescribe:
- Pain medication – such as Codeine and high dosages and combos of Tylenol (acetaminophen) and ibuprofen. Our Mobile Eye Doctors prescribed Hydrocodone until 2014 when it was reclassified as a schedule 2 to prevent abuse and addiction.
- Glaucoma medication – pills and drops. Prostaglandins, alpha agonists, beta blockers, and CAI’s are used to manage chronic glaucoma, and pills Diamox and Mannitol used in emergencies such as acute angle closure.
- Antibiotic pills and drops – such as Z-packs, pills for systemic STD’s, and drops for bacterial eye infections.
- Antiviral drops – used when herpes simplex (cold sores) or zoster (shingles) flares up in the cornea.
- Allergy drops – all antihistamine (treatment) and mast cell stabilizer (prevention) drops, such as Pataday.
- Steroid drops – very strong anti-inflammatory drug, such as Prednisolone.
- Cosmetic medication – Latisse for eyelash growth
- Cycloplegic – dilates the eye to treat for internal eye inflammation, light sensitivity, and to prevent children’s eye prescription from getting worse each year.
- Dry Eye medication – Restasis and Xiidra, brand new medications to increase tear production and reduce symptoms.
Diagnostic Tests Our Mobile Eye Doctors can order:
- MRI – for hydrocephalus, stroke, aneurysm, multiple sclerosis, tumors including pituitary adenoma
- Blood Work – including CBC, platelets, glucose, sed rate (ESR), ANA – for systemic diseases that cause inflammation or damage to the internal vasculature of the eyes, like diabetes, leukemia, and autoimmune diseases.
- Lumbar Puncture – for pseudotumor cerebri, and certain brain tumors.
- Visual Field – for pathology along the visual system in the brain, including glaucoma, pituitary adenoma, multiple sclerosis, optic neuritis, strokes, and traumatic brain injuries.
- Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) or Scanning Laser Ophthalmoscopy (SLO) – this is basically a high-definition X-ray of the retina and nerve in the eye, for macular degeneration, glaucoma, and all posterior segment diseases.
- Retinal Photo – to document subtle changes in the nerve, retina, or blood vessels. Photos assist in catching pathology much earlier than a standard exam alone.
- Electroretinography (ERG or EOG) – this test is similar to Electrocardiography (ECG or EKG), except the sensors are placed on the forehead and temple to assess neurological signal strength of the retina. This can help to diagnose degenerative diseases of the retina and nerve, such as Retinitis Pigmentosa and Optic Neuritis.
- Gonioscopy – this involves anesthetizing the eye and using a special lens with mirrors that rests on the eye and allows us to see internal structures of the eye normally impossible to see, even during dilation. This test is critical to understanding glaucoma cause and treatment.
- X-ray – this can be ordered of the orbit, or bones around the eye, if signs of an orbital floor fracture are present. It can also be ordered of the chest and lungs to rule out Tuberculosis and lung tumors in cases of chronic uveitis or Hoerner’s syndrome.
Surgeries All Our Mobile Eye Doctors can perform in other states
such as Kentucky, Louisiana, and Oklahoma. All Our Mobile Eye Doctors is working to progress Texas law so he can offer you the full expertise of his training:
- Photo Refractive Keratectomy (PRK, or flapless LASIK) – An elective surgery to change your prescription and free you of your dependency on glasses or contacts.
- YAG Laser Capsulotomy – For secondary cataracts, or posterior capsule opacification. Often after cataract surgery, the vision will cloud again within the first year. This can be fixed in minutes with this simple in-office laser procedure.
- Scanning Laser Trabeculoplasty – A noninvasive laser treatment for glaucoma. All Our Mobile Eye Doctors uses a laser to stimulate the cells in the eye responsible for decreasing the intraocular pressure.
- Laser Peripheral Iridotomy – A laser treatment for certain types of angle closure glaucoma, which restores normal aqueous flow to the eye, and reduces risk of future blindness.
- Subconjunctival Injections – Medicine is placed just under the surface of the eye, to treat deep infections or inflammation.
- Chalazion Incision and Curettage – When a “stye” heals into a scar and is a permanent bump on the lid, it can be removed by excision.
- Steroid Injection for Chalazion – A less invasive alternative to incision, some eyelid bumps can be removed by injecting medicine into the lid, after which the bump resolves on its own.
- Epithelial Debridement for Corneal Dystrophies – Sometimes the layer of cells on the front of the eye become irregular-shaped, causing blurred vision and dry eyes. This treatment allows the cells to re-grow with a fresh start, greatly improving vision and symptoms.
- IV Insertion for Fluorescein Angiography – To accurately diagnose and treat some retinal diseases, this procedure shows All Our Mobile Eye Doctors any defects in the bloodflow of retinal vessels.
