Meet Our Eye Doctor: Bruce Colton, O.D.
Bruce Colton, O.D. earned his undergraduate degree in Biology from Brigham Young University, and his Doctorate in Optometry from the University of Houston College of Optometry. While at the University of Houston, he completed a two-year research fellowship with the National Institute of Health using stem cells to restore vision lost to macular degeneration. Dr. Colton also taught Molecular and Microbiology at the University of Houston, and was voted best instructor two years in a row. He was awarded the Family Vision Solutions Gas Permeable Contact Lens Award and the A.C. Marcaccio Community Service Award, in addition to being inducted into the Beta Sigma Kappa Honor Society for academic achievement.
Dr. Colton went on to complete his internship rotation in ocular disease at Cedar Springs Eye Clinic in Dallas, where he performed minor surgeries, and treated glaucoma and infections. Dr. Colton completed a second rotation in medical specialty contact lenses at Space Center Eye Associates in Houston. There Dr. Colton provided vision care for NASA astronauts and worked alongside Dr. F. Keith Manuel, a world-renowned expert on specialty contact lenses.
Dr. Colton is licensed as a Therapeutic Optometrist and board certified as an Optometric Glaucoma Specialist. He is certified by the National Board of Examiners in Optometry to perform medical eye exams and administer injections. He is registered with the DEA to prescribe and administer ophthalmic drugs, including oral antibiotics, glaucoma drops, and pain medication. He is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Texas Optometric Association.
